The photograph shows logs piled in the yard of Lawson & Son Sawmillers & Plywood Manufacturer's, Tully. Lawsons purchased the sawmill on the bank of Banyan Creek in 1937, and sold it in the mid-1960s. The mill closed in 1976

Members of the Tully Cycle Club. This club was very strong in the early 1940s. Races were held from Tully to Cardwell and Tully to Innisfail although they were dirt roads at that time. They used interesting equipment for the era, including tubeless tyres

The Tully fire brigade was formed in the early 1940s and this building was completed in 1945. It was replaced by a new fire station on Murray Street in 1977. Cardwell Shire Council then purchased this old station which became the headquarters of the local branch of the State Emergency Service for a number of years
