The Maria Creek wharf was located about 2 miles upstream from the river mouth. A sawmill tramway from the wharf to Japoonvale was also used by Chinese growers to transport their bananas to the wharf as seen on this image, where "S.S. Seymour" is loading. Twins, Pat and Mick Mullins, obtained a liquor licence in July 1925 and erected a temporary bar while the concrete Hotel Tully building was under construction. When a fire in February 1997 damaged the hotel, the original Art Deco look of the “Top Pub” was retained in the reconstructed building
