Black and white photograph of Silky Oak Creek School building, taken in 1951. This school opened on 1st November 1940. It was located on the western side of the northern highway at Silky Oak. The school closed on 31st December 1974 and the building was used by the Queensland Main Roads Department as offices for a time

Many Chinese banana growers came to the Tully River in the late 19th and early 20th century, and some of the Chinese also set up shops

The Sisters of the Good Samaritan arrived in February 1928 and classes commenced in the church. The foundation stone for the school building photographed was laid in 1933 with lessons commencing here in April 1934
