The memorial gates were erected to honour past pupils and teachers who served in the Second World War, funded by a grant from the Education Department and donations from the local Council and community societies. The cairn is located some 9 miles from the commencement of the Kirrama Range Road, overlooking the Davidson and Murray River lands. Chairman of Cardwell Shire Council, Brice Henry died in office in 1940. From a pioneer family, he served the shire for many years as councillor and in his work in the cattle fattening industry
