Photograph of pupils on "parade" at Banyan Provisional School, which opened on the sugar mill site on 30 June, 1924 with 50 pupils. The teacher was Mr. Johnson. The school moved to the present site and the named changed to Tully in 1925

During the Second World War a unit of the RAAF was based on Dunk Island: No.27 Radio Direction Finding Station. A radar station was erected on the island in October 1942 and disbanded in December 1945.
