The Dunk Island resort commenced operation in the 1930s

The Savoy, located on Plumb Street was constructed in the early days of the township. It may have originally been the home of the Greek Club. The Irish Club met here in the 1930s, and it also provided accommodation for canecutters and itinerant workers

George Morris ran a small resort on Orpheus Island (in the Palm Island group) before he was hired by Hugo Brassey to go to Dunk Island to run the resort there
