EJ Banfield and his wife commenced life on Dunk Island in 1897. They lived in tents while they built a one-roomed cedar hut. Their second home, pictured here in the late 1930s, was a more substantial house

Sepia photograph of Bert Phillips, lathe operator, beside a Kauri Pine log. Bert worked at the Kennedy Standply sawmill and plymill for almost 30 years till the mill closed down in 1973 on its sale to Foxwood. Phillips also served in the RAAF in the Second World War
