Premier E.G. Theodore visited Banyan in May 1922 to meet with residents. He inspected the area and heard their case for a sugar mill. There was torrential rain on the day but a banquet was provided at the cane-decorated home of Mr J beattie

Prior to this over 450 men were employed on the construction. A camp for workers can be seen on the bank of the river
