The building was erected at a cost of £12,500 but with the land and equipment the total value was £17,000. The new building was officially opened on 15 December 1956

Following the completion of the Tully - Hull River Developmental Road, the Butler Brothers commenced a combined motor bus and motor launch service from Tully to Dunk Island. The service commenced in December 1931 and was popular for Sunday picnics. Along the side of the bus can be seen: "Googarra Beach"
