Sepia photograph of the three sons of Margaret and William Pershouse, who came to the Cardwell district from Gladstone in 1880. They built a family home at 'Glenwarn' (located within the junction of Meunga and Kennedy Creeks). The brothers were to own a timber mill at Carruchan which later belonged to Brown & Broad Ltd

Photograph of Chinese banana growers with bunches from their smaller craft alongside a larger vessel on the Tully River. There were numerous Chinese growers along the Tully River from the 1890s, and about 400 at the peak from 1905 to 1908. The First World War caused shipping to southern markets to be disrupted and most of the Chinese gardeners departed

Alf and Jack Perkins owned the property north of Murray Upper School where they had a Palomino horse stud which did not prosper. They died in c.1918

Sepia original photograph of the original Cardwell Divisional Board Hall which became the Cardwell Shire Hall. Located at 51 Victoria Street, it was built in 1892. It was refurbished in 1988 but was severely damaged by Cyclone Yasi in 2011 and subsequently rebuilt

Black and white photograph of Mr Jim Kirk and two children, seated on horse and rig. The horse "Darky" and Rig was an award winner at the Innisfail Show (ribbon around horse's neck). Jim Kirk was the owner of Kirk's Aerated Water and Cordial Factory (c.1910 - 1918). He was married to Eva Kirk (nee Graham), who later became Mrs W. Hewett. [from description on back of photo]

Sepia photograph of three of the Cutten brothers, who pioneered the Bingil Bay area from the 1880s. On their property, Bicton, they grew many tropical fruits including pineapples. They also built a sawmill which prospered from the abundance of local timber

Sepia photograph of pupils at Murray River Upper State School. The date on the board is obscured, but it is believed to be 1914. The school opened in 1904 as a provisional school and became a state school in 1909

The image is of Winnie, Violet and Dilly Boy. Dilly Boy showed Surveyor Smith the gap through the Walter Hill Range that the North Coast Railway took. He was presented with an engraved brass plate as "King Dilly Boy of Banyan."
