The foundation stone for the school building photographed was laid in 1933 with lessons commencing here in April 1934

Robert La Mont Atkinson was the grandson of pioneer James Atkinson who first came to North Queensland in 1864, while Ruth Collins was the daughter of Edgar and Mary Collins. Kirrama Station was in the Collins family from 1896 until 1972
