Dr David Starkey presents the third series of his complete history of the British Monarchy. In this series, Starkey explores the period dating from 1660 through to the early 20th century. He discusses the role of the Monarchy in the newly emerging government. This new constitutional monarchy would eventually allow the inhabitants of the British Isles an unrivalled degree of political liberty and stability. The series begins with the restoration of the English monarchy after Charles II's return from exile. Starkey explores the ever changing relationship between the monarchy and the emerging Modern State into the 20th Century.
