The catcher in the rye

Salinger, J. D. (Jerome David), 1919-20101994
Books, Manuscripts
A 16-year old American boy relates in his own words the experiences he goes through at school and after, and reveals with unusual candour the workings of his own mind. What does a boy in his teens think and feel about his teachers, parents, friends and acquaintances? Ancient child of sixteen and native New Yorker named Holden Caulfield, leaves his prep school in Pennsylvania and goes underground in New York City for three days. The boy himself is at once too simple and too complex for us to make any final comment about him or his story.
