Colour photograph of the plaque on the commemorative cairn at South Mission Beach. It was unveiled on 23 May 1948 as part of the celebrations for the centenary of Edmund Kennedy's exploration. The cairn is located 2 miles north of where Kennedy landed, on a reserve then named the Kennedy Memorial Park

Kennedy and party who landed two miles south of this cairn from the Barque "Tam O'Shanter" on May 24th 1848 to explore Cape York Peninsula. Faithful Aboriginal Jackey-Jackey, botanist W. Carron and W. Goddard were the only survivors of the party of thirteen men
